Mr. Floyd entered our lives in September 2015; we meet him by chance at a pet adoption event held by South Lake Animal Rescue in Clermont, FL. We were on our way to pick up some office supplies and noticed this cute, what we had thought was a baby Doberman Pinscher across the parking lot at the Petco (Clermont) entrance. We decided to walk over to meet him, scratch his head and rub his ears a bit. As we approached him and the person handling him, we realized he was not a baby Doberman, but an older German Pinscher (about 11 years old). He was so friendly and so sweet; as we talked to his handler we were falling in love with this little guy that needed a break in life, we adopted him that day! Mr. Floyd was in the care of South Lake for about a year, because of his age, as most people adopting want puppies. From that moment forward we were dedicated to Mr. Floyd, filling his last few years with love and attention. Mr. Floyd had a lump on his neck (that may have also played a role in his lack of being adopted sooner) that after being misdiagnosed for two years turned out to be cancer that took his life three years after we adopted him. Within those three years, we pack a lifetime of love! One of our most cherished memories of Mr. Floyd came just five months after adopting him. While eating lunch we were watching an episode of “How I Met Your Mother”. Just as we were finishing up lunch with Mr. Floyd (he had a chicken sandwich) the song “You just got slapped” began playing as part of the episode. To our surprise Mr. Floyd joined in singing along with the song. This was the first time we ever heard the song and Mr. Floyd’s singing voice. We were stunned! We played the song back a second time hoping to have a repeat performance and this is what happened…

Within the three years we had with Mr. Floyd, we did everything together, if Mr. Floyd couldn’t go, we didn’t go either and of course we took a ton of photographs along the way. We are heartbroken that he is no longer with us, but we are grateful that we were able to get to know and love him. Our lives were changed forever. Give an older dog, or cat a chance, they have so much love to offer.
